MUMMOLA

The book Granny's by Hans Välimäki is a tribute to Finnish home cooking, to butter and cream, to rye bread and lingonberry porridge. This book looked so beautiful that I wanted to have it. It's like a memory from my own granny's place, where she no longer lives. For a city girl from Helsinki it was a thrill in my childhood summers to travel where the cows say moo. And we could pick our own eggs from the henhouse. What was most fun though was racing with the calves.

Twice I was left without this book. Once I tipped my children's grandmother about it. And then one time, when visiting her, she fed us with a macaroni dish from this book. I was sold. Now, finally, I got this book for our own kitchen. It just makes me miss granny's place even more. This deeply nostalgic piece will make you skip the ready-made stuff at the grocery store, and will bring joy into your everyday cooking. (translation; Merja Barry)
